00:00:00 BRIO EXPORT · FOR AFTER EFFECTS · FREE FOR EVERYONE
Send your After Effects comps to Brio.
Brio Export is a free script for After Effects. Pick your comps, click Export, and Brio opens the file with — layers, keyframes and easing, masks, text, cameras and lights. It's free for everyone, with no licence or account.
COMING SOON Built and in testing now. It ships with the Brio release that imports its files.
00:00:04 HOW IT WORKS
Three steps, one file.
The script reads your project inside After Effects, so every value comes straight from After Effects itself.
Pick your comps
Run Brio Export from , or dock it as a panel. The comps you've selected are already ticked.
Save one file
Click Export… and save comp.brio.json. Precomps inside your comps come along, and footage is referenced where it sits.
Import it
Choose . Your comps open with their keyframes, and a report lists anything that needs a look.
00:00:08 WHAT COMES ACROSS
It opens, it moves, and it tells you what to fix.
Nothing in the file can make the import fail. Anything Brio can't carry yet is named in a report, so you know exactly what to rebuild.
Comes across
- Comps, and every precomp inside them
- Shape, text, solid, null, adjustment, footage and audio layers
- Cameras and lights
- Keyframes with their easing, including motion paths
- Parenting, blend modes, track mattes and masks
- Text with its font, size, fill, stroke and tracking
- Expressions, baked into per-frame values so the motion still plays
- Time remap, markers and the work area
- Common effects, including Gaussian Blur, Glow, Levels, Hue/Saturation, Fractal Noise, Turbulent Displace and Drop Shadow
Listed in the report
- Gradient colours. After Effects doesn't let scripts read them, so gradients arrive with stand-in stops to set by hand
- Effects Brio doesn't have yet, named so you can rebuild them
- Settings Brio approximates, such as Lighten and Darken mask modes and fixed text leading
The script also shows its own warnings in After Effects before you switch apps.
In testing on real projects now, so this list can still change before release.

00:00:16 QUESTIONS
Good questions.
Does it change my After Effects project?
No. It only reads the project, and writes one new file wherever you choose to save it.
Why can't Brio open .aep files directly?
Adobe doesn't document the .aep format. Letting After Effects describe the project itself is the dependable way to get every layer, keyframe and ease right.
Do I need to own Brio?
Not to export. Brio Export is free for everyone. You need Brio to open the file, and Brio is free to try.
What happens to expressions?
With Bake expressions on (the default), every expression-driven property is sampled once per frame, so the motion plays in Brio. Turn it off for smaller files: the expression text still travels with the file, and the report lists each one.
Can I read the file it makes?
Yes. It's plain JSON, named after your comp.
