BRIO

A motion design app with a live reactive engine under a timeline you already know.
Change anything — everything downstream updates instantly.

Con brio — the musical direction for “with spirit.” Formerly Kineto; same app, same engine, a name that says how it moves.

00:00:04 WHY BRIO

Built by a motion designer with a career's worth of client work in After Effects — and a list of things that should have been fixed years ago. Brio starts over with a dependency graph at the core, so your comp behaves like a living system instead of a stack of cached frames.

00:00:08 FEATURES · 5 LAYERS · DRAG THE KEYFRAMES

Everything is live

A reactive graph engine tracks what depends on what. Edit a path, a color, an expression — only the affected work recomputes, immediately. The viewport keeps up with you, not the other way around.

Operators on layers, modifiers on properties

Two clean stacks. Pile operators onto any layer to transform what it is, and stack modifiers onto any property to drive how it moves. Reorder, disable, or swap them without touching your keyframes.

Folders are layers

Group without pre-comping. Folders sit in the timeline as first-class layers — animate them, add operators to them, open them in place. Your project stays one flat, inspectable thing.

Geometry that stays procedural

Live geometry operators build shapes that remain editable all the way to render. Offset, repeat, and rebuild outlines as real renderable geometry — no more editor-only guides you can't ship.

2D and 3D in the same comp

Extrude your shapes and type, import .obj models, and light them on a real stage — cyclorama, directional, point and spot lights, shadows, PBR materials, HDRI environments. Same timeline, same layers, same keyframes. Drop a camera into a 2D comp and it flips 3D on the spot.

00:00:12 SINCE THE BETA · 4 RELEASES

Four releases since this page went up

This site launched alongside 0.3.1 on August 14. Everything since is in 0.4.1 — the build on the download button right now, not a roadmap.

3D · 0.3.3 → 0.3.5

A stage that lights itself

  • Studio Setup — one click for a lit, grounded stage
  • Cyclorama and plane primitives to stand a scene on, with new objects resting on the floor instead of guessing
  • Spot lights with real falloff — eight light slots, four of them casting shadows
  • HDRI environments that cast shadows, plus scene exposure, a selectable tone curve and an environment-contrast dial
  • 28 PBR material presets with copy, paste and reset — and texture maps that tile at the same size on every face
  • Effects run on 3D layers, composited depth-aware
  • Camera tools — orbit, dolly X/Y, dolly Z; hold for the picker, C cycles, wheel dollies toward the cursor
SHAPES & TYPE · 0.3.2 → 0.3.4

Vector work that goes further

  • Extruded text, per character, with text animators intact
  • Tapered stroke, targetable star roundness, and Donut / Skew / Pie as real geometry ops
  • Path editing v2 — insert vertices, multi-point selection, saved point groups, ⇧⌘-drag an edge into a curve
  • Gradients everywhere — strokes, text, backgrounds, with on-canvas axis gizmos and per-stop midpoints
  • Import as Layers — SVG, AI and EPS arrive as editable shapes, one layer per group, gradients carried through
  • An isometric grid, drawn and snapped
ANIMATION · 0.3.3 → 0.3.4

Timing you can shape

  • Motion paths — spatial bezier tangents on position keys, with handles you drag in the viewer
  • Trajectories for shape points and mask points, with draggable value dots
  • Keyframe loop modes — cycle, ping-pong, continue
  • Freeze Frame, plus composition and layer markers
  • An Animation menu — offset layers, offset keyframes, order layers, loop
  • Graph editor handles that edit every selected keyframe, not just the one under the cursor
WORKSPACE · 0.3.3 → 0.3.5

The timeline grew columns

  • Parent and Matte columns in the timeline, with pick whips that actually drag
  • A dockable Search panel
  • A native macOS menu bar, and a keyboard-shortcut cheat sheet generated from the real bindings
  • A render queue that parks jobs · PNG and EXR image sequences · custom framerate
  • Reload and Replace Footage; drop a file straight onto New Composition
  • Retimed layers hatch their bar — blue for sped up, red for slowed
RELIABILITY · 0.3.3 → 0.3.5

Work you don't lose

  • Background autosave, including Untitled projects that were never saved to disk
  • Atomic writes — a save can no longer be left half-written
  • Project lock files, and your unsaved work offered back at the next launch
  • One broken panel no longer takes the window with it — it fails inside its own frame with a Try again, and everything around it keeps working
POLISH · 0.3.3 → 0.3.5

A hundred smaller edges

  • Multi-select gets one real bounding box — and scales and rotates as a set
  • Toggle columns paint on drag — press eye, solo, lock or mute and sweep down the rows
  • Layer rows wear their kind: folder, null and adjustment icons and colours
  • Snapping options, grid spacing and guide presets behind a right-click
  • Levels gets a real shader and a histogram; Glow gets a blend mode
  • Eye, mute, effect reorder and multi-layer lock all join the undo stack

Curves you can grab

Drag the handles. The move replays through your curve — the same direct, immediate editing Brio brings to every property in a comp.

Speed graphs, value graphs, and per-property modifiers all respond in real time, because nothing in Brio waits for a cache.
